Invasion of the Pod People
Public radio in Atlanta doesn't just suck...in the word of Jon Stewart, it suuuuuuuuuUUUUUUUUCKS. I won't go into particulars, but it is basically the only outlet for Classical Music in town, so the Classical music programming rules the afternoons. No Talk of the Nation, no Studio 360, none of the goodness that sustains bleeding heart liberal artists the whole country over. Enter podcasting, the balm that makes our NPR boo-boo feel better. I can now load up my little iPod with dozens of programs that I love, and I can be the deejay and play them when I want. Enter Sister DG's CRAFTYPOD. Smoking Gun
I was a vegetarian for 12 years...then I moved to the South. I still don't eat much meat, and I still think that people eat waaaaay too much meat in this country, but I personally have to bend the rules when it comes to barbecue. Barbecue is an act of love, you see--treating the meat with the respect that it deserves...smoking, slow cooking...It's not lunchtime yet, and I have to stop before I gnaw my fingers off. Anyway, this brings me to the latest instance of Extreme Craft, a 6 foot 11 barbecue pit made in the shape of a PISTOL!
Joe Wood of Weimar, Texas built this 6 foot-11 custom barbecue pit in his home metal shop. The barrel is 10 feet long and 8 inches in diameter, and the entire rig is over 15 feet long. The pistol’s grips, which cover the firebox, are made of red oak. When cooking, the barrel acts as the grill’s chimney. It took over two years and 1,100 hours to complete, and used more than two tons of red oak, stainless, and carbon steel.

Supernaturale Needs Your Help!
It's not often that Extreme Craft asks something of you, dear readers, but I have just turned on the Extreme Craft Bat Signal (a crocheted skull and crossbones). The good folks at Supernaturale need your help. They're looking for information on Norm Gusscott, who created the lovely bunny skulls pictured above. We know that he lives in New Zealand...we know that his email address no longer works...we know that he crochets bunny skulls that he likes to call "Carlesie". For the love of god, please help.

Playa Hatter
I used to own a record store in Lincoln, Nebraska (How's that for indie cred!). I stocked all sorts of music from around the world, but particularly the midwest. I can remember carrying records by Minnesota band The Blue Up? and frontlady Ana Voog's anavoog.com album. You may know Ana Voog better as the woman behind anacam, a 24-hour a day, 7-days a week webcam. Ana was just featured in a documentary called Webcam Girls that profiles some of the leading lights behind the webcam phenomenon.
As if being a musician, artist, collector, and webcam diva wasn't enough, Ana is now fiendishly crocheting amazing avant-garde hats and accessories. In addition to her crochet website, she also runs a crochet-based livejournal called String Theory to keep us up with her comings and goings. Ana Voog's hats are everything that hats should be...impractical, individual, and WARM! They are an outlandish tribute to the lost art of hat wearing.

Coked-Out Prom Night
I skipped out on prom my senior year of high school. I was an exchange student in Germany, and didn't feel bad about it. Looking at this photoset, though, I realized that I missed out on climbing on a pussy train that will never NEVER end. Like the young people engaging in the duct tape prom dress/tuxedo contest, this young man realizes that craftiness is key. What do you do when you're too young to make beer can hats? Move on with your life, and create a tuxedo (including vest and corsage) out of Coca-Cola cans. I'm in awe.
