Today marks my 7th anniversary as a resident of beautiful Atlanta, Georgia. Atlanta has always felt like home. My wife Claire and I have been living in a huge house with enough space for our studios. We have a creek running through our backyard, which is occupied by a huge owl that watches over us. Atlanta is one of America's craftiest cities, with folks like the Indie Craft Experience and the ladies from Threadbared, but folks, it's time for me to move on.
I just accepted a teaching job at Golden West College in Huntington Beach, California. Surf City, U.S.A. here I come. I was very charmed by Huntington Beach (which is just South of Long Beach in Orange County) on my interview visits, and I'm looking forward to its proximity to the Los Angeles art (and craft) scenes. SO--those of you around Los Angeles--help a brother out! I want to know about places to live, studios to rent, galleries to pester and people to be pals with. I'm making the big move in August, and very much looking forward to the adventure. If you've got suggestions, please feel free to post 'em here, or email me directly at garth (at) extremecraft.com.
One question that's been plaguing me, though...how do Californian ceramic artists handle the whole earthquake thing?
