Oh Jonathon Keats! 99.99999% of artists who harvest drawings from plants are totally one trick ponies. Not Keats, who brought us the Agrifolk movement last year. He's been busy "cultivating" his gentleman farmer image into something altogether more "fertile". Keats is exploring the outer bounds of sexuality and capitalism with his new project. PLANT PORN! It's only logical that since plants outnumber humans by a significant factor, they represent an incredible market that can be tapped.
Keats new films of plants in the act of pollination are high in contrast, and are made to be projected directly onto the leaves of plants. The plants....and the porn will be featured in an exhibition at the Chico Gallery at Chico State University starting September 10th.
"I think it must be very titillating, if pollination is your thing," says 1078 exhibition committee member J. Pouwels. Mr. Keats, who's already looking into further venues for plant porn, believes that the theater might even be intriguing to people. "Watching movies in a cineplex is partly about absorbing the experience of others in the audience. On the big screen, our point of view is enlarged. I see no reason why shared experiences with other species can't further expand our perspective."
The entire history of cinema up to the digital age was just experimentation with light. Who else but plants could get this much out of film? When porn is elemental to you...literally made out of something you need to survive, wouldn't it be even hotter? Check out the exhibition to find out.
